Dec. 10th, 2006

Of the many ways in which I expected to be able to describe Kushiel's Dart, "a pleasant read" was not among them. But it is just that. I'm grateful for not having read it younger. Sure, maybe it's less gripping for the sense about certain things I've acquired along the way, but it's so nice not to identify with Phedre, to nod my head just a little at Alcuin's silences, to think Delaunay is the character that most resonates with me thus far. And for as silly and trashy as the book often is, its attempts at seriousness about certain things are sincere, and I appreciate that.

I'm on page 150 or so.
