Today on the subway giong to fencing I saw a junkie with bleeding knees on a nod. She had a beautiful, but worried and with clipped wings parrot on her shoulder, and I was very very worried for the bird.

prelude to a yay

As the piece notes, this is the beginning of a long fight. But this is still an important first step.

HP5 trailers

So I finally just watched the two new HP trailers -- domestic and international. The domestic one has really astounding pacing. It's pretty masterful for what it is, and it captures the vibe of book 5 pretty well.

Book 5 is the problem book for me, as it is, I think, for a lot of people. Because it's probably the least well written or structured, but has the turns that really make the series pretty astounding. It's a dark, angry, claustrophobic book and there were large chunks of it I could barely stand to read because they pushed my own buttons about my own issues. I'd forgotten to a degree the feeling of dread I associated with the book until I watched the trailer.

So I'm pretty excited. And teen Snape! And the infamous occulamency lessons. And I love how much the tone of the film seems to be clearly about politics and rebellion and uprising. That's exciting.

On the other hand:

WHY IS VOLDEMORT WEARING MUGGLE CLOTHING?!?!?!?!?
I could barely stand Draco in his stupid Armani suit in the last movie (wouldn't Lucius wring his neck for that? in a box? at an event? with the Minister? GaaaaH).
BUT VOLDEMORT?
Whose entire existence is about his rejection of the muggle background he resents and feels harmed him?

Graaaah.
