As the piece notes, this is the beginning of a long fight. But this is still an important first step.

I for one would love it if Minnesota would get on this bandwagon. Currently S and I are faced with the ridiculous expense of Healthcare directives and Living Wills and later will be the adoption papers...and me having to pay to legally change my name since the 'union' in VT 2 years ago. Egad this mess is an expensive lot. I thought I was supposed to have all this disposable income. WTH?!

With the republican majority in the state senate, this issue might have to wait until after the next election cycle to see if that house turns over or not. I just hope enough momentum is created that they'd be able to get it past the senate before the issue starts creating the usual backlash for everyone in office.

Still, here's hoping.

Newsday reported that it's unlikely to pass, (which I assume is primarily because Republicans control the State senate.) But this is the first time a state governor has introduced a bill that would protect marriage equality. It's a great day. :)
