the second gilded agehttp://www.nytimes.com/indexes/2007/10/13/magazine/Haven't read any of it yet. Hope I can find time to read all of it and write about it. Hope they did a good job and take into account all the ways in which the first Gilded Age never quite died here -- both for the very rich and the very poor. I'm guessing not, which is what I hope I have the time to write about.
sicilyHaving looked at the $$ horror of flying to Catania, I now think I'm going to fly to Rome, then take a train and leave via ferry from the Napoli/Palermo port to get there, even if I went on a long rant to Patty last night about how totally sketchy Napoli is. This is a cheaper option, the endless travel actually turns out to be the same, and boats are good for my soul. I don't get enough boats.
bookI've not started working on the galleys yet, but they _look_ great.
lifeWe went marketing together this morning, and got tomatos and cheese and it was brillaint and cold and sunlit. I'll meet her at the cafe later so we can both do our work. Tomorrow evening it's Blade Runner (after what will hopefully be for me a Descensus day). This week, ball prep includes shoes for her, dress stuff for Edie, and hair things for everyone. Also, it's an excuse to buy plumage for the Halloween costumes.
