- Having realized that if I do even 30 minutes of concentrated work a day Patty can come home to a shockingly awesome house in July, I've been in serious dealing with the house mode. Oi.

- Torchwood NY picnic tomorrow. I wasn't going to do anything costume-y, because sweating in a suit and the like really sucks, but they have a pterodactyl kite. Maybe you understand. Maybe I'm insane. [livejournal.com profile] marchek is bringing chocolate for the pterodactyl kite. The funny in this fandom way makes up for all the bad!fic.

- I found my pocketwatch.

- Yeah, so still working on the werewolves. And the Jack and Annie story I really wanted to be able to post yesterday (but she has a maiden name now -- so exiciting!)

- Will get to talk to Patty tomorrow during her weekly Internet access.

- Oh, hey, so I write this series of articles on the history of certain shoe styles -- so far I've done the pump, the sneaker, the ballet flat, the gladiator sandal and the platform shoe. And I'm running out of ideas. And I need two more in the short term. What other shoe sorts are there?

- Swamped. But okay.

- Hey, did anyone watch Swingtown last night on, I think, CBS? They're totally marketing it to by trashy and shocking, but I found it really sweet and melancholy and so like the world I watched through doorways in my childhood.
I was just as the newsstand buying stamps to mail a letter to Patty when a dude came and leaned down to grab a paper, I assumed, to pay for it.

Instead he grabbed the entire stack of Backstage's and sauntered off, until I gave chase. What the fuck I would have done if I'd caught the guy, I dunno, but I suppose I would have figured it out. Anyway, he went into the subway and escaped onto an N Train. Pants and my fall boots and I could have done it, I'm telling you. But seriously, this is New York, normally other people help. Apparently Disneyfication comes with people not giving a shit.

Anyway, I understand that it's more hassle than it's worth for the woman who runs the newsstand to file a police report, and she says this happens all the time. But it just makes me so mad, especially because he got away with shit on the watch of two women in part because I stepped out of his way to be courteous as I thought he was about to make a purchase.

Grrrrrrrrr.

Torchwood, post- Exit Wounds

Smart, tense, brilliant, and weirdly captures why I so get Jack, although to explain it I'd have to tell several stories about my own incompetent assholery. I suppose that's not a surprise.

You go to fencing because that's what you do. It has nothing to do with whether you feel like it or if you want to or if you're planning to enjoy it (and seriously, were you under the delusion that we do this for fun?). Those are, at least theoretically and in general company, all over-arching true things regardless of whether you feel like being entirely lazy right now. So get over it and drag your ass there already. It's only two bloody hours tonight anyway, and you don't even have to talk to anyone since you'll just be working on a target with the saber.

Graaah.

(yeah, that's exactly what the internal landscape sounds like, especially when I'm being lazy).
Does anyone have an install disc for OS X for a _Motorola_-based Powerbook I can borrow in the next 48 hours?

Will come to you with gratitude and, if required, beer or other appropriate bribes. (For fannish folks I will fic for this!)

More details in comments.
