The Klezmer Nutcracker
Dec. 16th, 2008 03:04 pmFor those that are interested and/or in NYC, I did a review of
ellen_kushner's show, The Klezmer Nutcracker over here:

It's awfully charming and you should get to it if you can, especially if you have kids to bring along.
For those who have ever heard Ellen read from any of her Riverside work, it's worth noting that on the album version of the stage show that led to the book that was then developed into this play (it's confusing, I know -- it's all explained very slowly and clearly on her website though) the voice she uses for the peacock sounds just like Alec, which makes it momentarily hilarious and confusing when the peacock in this iteration of The Golden Dreydl is played by a chick who doesn't sound like Alec (or Ellen!) at all.
If that paragraph made no sense to you, don't worry, not important! Just go see the show, it's really cool and has way better production values and performances than one should rightfully expect out of children's theater.
