  • Still obsessed with Movits! How great is this shit? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LnaeImQ0TSg In the realm of appalling, the lead singer reminds me of the goofy boy I went to my senior prom with too. Anyway, do you not totally want to dance to this shit? It makes me want to choreograph again.

  • Right, so... I'm back in that "not enjoying conversations about CoE" place. Some of that is my own fault. I don't think I've actually been any more abrasive and forceful than usual, but current fandom discourse requires a hand more delicate than I am interested in or capable of having. I'm aggravating other people, aggravating myself and disappointing myself as well. So... backing away a little bit, even though I've stumbled on more than a few things this morning that I honestly feel like I want and should address very loudly. If it really matters, I'll come back to it.

  • I'm in my pre-travel stressed-out acting like an asshole phase. Okay, it's not quite as bad as all that, but I'm, as noted above, not pleased with myself, and Patty's had to be pretty patient the last couple of days. She makes everything better.

  • So does a lovely dinner with her last night at L'Express.

  • Men's shoe's for girl's feet.... help me out folks. Where do you shop? I need a good pair of dress shoes, to the point that I'm really over my perfectly adequate making do solutions. I wear a 7.5 in women's sizes .... meaning boy's shoes don't go up high enough in size, but my feet are still tiny.

  • Also shopping: Where the hell does one buy DVDs in NYC now that Virgin and Tower both closed?

  • Back to work....

A gay couple faces police action for kissing in public in Salt Lake City.

A gay couple is kicked out of a restaurant in El Paso, also for kissing.

I keep trying to formulate a sentence to go here, but I don't really have the time. But this is what being gay looks like when it's not on your television, when it's not in New York City or San Francisco or what is truly not that much more than a handful of cities, when you're not in a neighborhood where it's safe to be queer, when you're totally average and when you're living in America.

    WriterCon

    Jul. 29th, 2009 11:00 pm
I leave for WriterCon tomorrow afternoon and should land in Minneapolis around 8pm.

If you're going to be at the con, please come check out the programming I'm involved with:

  • Saturday, 10am:
Sharks Vs Jets: Writing Fight Scenes

  • Saturday, 6pm:
    Torchwood/Doctor Who spoiler-filled bar event

  • Saturday, 8pm:
The Language of Love: How Sex Scene Descriptives Color the Overall Story

  • You can also come say hi in the vendors room, where I'll be manning a table with authors Martha Wells and Elle Parker. We'll all have our books available for sale and hope you'll spend some dosh with us!

    I also want to recommend:

  • Friday, 2pm:
Is Fandom Gonna Have to Choke a Bitch? Language and Gender in Fanfiction

  • Saturday, 10am:
If You Build It, They Will Come: How the Internet Builds Communities Around Fanfic which includes [livejournal.com profile] kalichan

  • Saturday, 2pm:
Slash: Gay, Queer, Both, Neither? because I think the topic is really important

  • Sunday, 10am:
Cage Match: Science vs. Magic which includes [livejournal.com profile] kalichan

  • Sunday, 2pm:
Evil in Our Midst: Racism, Sexism, and Homophobia in Fandom includes [livejournal.com profile] invisible_lift and [livejournal.com profile] kalichan. This panel is right at the end of the con, probably to prevent any tension from it form spilling out to the rest of the con. I do wish it was earlier in the weekend, as I, and probably others, will miss it because we need to get on our flights out. But if you're there, I'd recommend going.
