  • The Do's and Don'ts of Being a Good Ally

  • Marriage equality bill introduced in Illinois, marriage equality bill coming in DC, possible movement on Don't Ask, Don't Tell, and don't forget, the battle is on re: marriage equality in Maine.

  • We are up to almost 2,000 signatures on the Art Does Not Excuse Rape petition. The comments people are leaving, often telling personal stories, are very powerful. Of course, they may also be triggering, fyi. Also, Lexa Doig RT'ed it yesterday, which was a big help.

  • An academic is in need. I don't know the guy, but I know the other people involved, several in person, so this goes in my "for real, involves my friends, help if you can" box. So help if you can!

  • Tomorrow: peppers. Sunday: planes.

  • Oh crap, WEREWOLF STORY!

  • Last night I submitted my Dragon*Con guest application for 2010.

  • What is up with the Marriott frenzy? It seems a little insane. Is its reputation as _the_ party hotel that massive?

  • I got a raise. Big awesome retroactive paycheck coming to me. Work/live balance issues resolved that make things much better for us.

  • I got birthday money. What the hell?

  • I have a real actual savings account, a retirement account and am looking at life insurance stuff at work because that's the responsible thing to do.

  • I have annoying paperwork stuff to deal with today unrelated to any of this, but once it's resolved, I get to feel like a sane human being again. And it will be and so forth.

  • Today I am wearing my black suit, my brick shirt and my black tie with the silver and pewter stripes. It looks awesome. The truth, of course, is that my other tie, with the reds, looks better with this shirt, but I can't do it -- it's just too bleeding weird. I love this shirt so much, but I wonder when it will stop seeming utterly peculiar to me. Now I know why I almost ordered the plum. Next time, plum.

  • It has occurred to me that I should be Stephen Colbert for Halloween. I need a haircut anyway. I own awesome suits. All I need is a WristStrong bracelet and my awesome ability to mimic just about anyone's body language. Are you afraid yet?

  • Someone from my GWU life has surfaced, but I'm having trouble quite putting it together in my head who he is. Email sent, stories to be told. I sorta hope he's heard from one of the people we both knew, because then I won't have to provide a difficult update.

  • I am sad about Chicago losing its Olympic bid, because I fucking love Chicago and need an excuse to go back ASAP.

  • Hey, is anyone else going to the NY*CC one year out party on 10/8? I'm apparently on the VIP list, but never go to these things without moral support, which is why I'm a bad, bad pro.
  • The financial realities of being in a same-sex primary partnership
In [The New York Times's] worst case, the couple’s lifetime cost of being gay was $467,562. But the number fell to $41,196 in the best case for a couple with significantly better health insurance, plus lower taxes and other costs.
