My office is located on the 14th floor of a 16 story office-building. Each floor employs about 100 or so people, and we have three small elevators. For months, one has been broken. They are replacing it, the note on it says, and it will be finished by April 2011. Today, a second one is listed as out. So our usual, wait in line for an elevator around 9am thing, has now turned into, wait on a line that goes out the front door of our building and will take two or three round trips of the elevator before you can get on it. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE.
Last night Patty and I went to that outdoor yoga thing. We got our free bags and mats and water, and I was all lying on mine being "now I nap!" and she was getting excited to do yoga and then the event started and there was rain. A lot of rain. We decided to run away. But then it slowed down, so we stopped and stayed, and did a few yoga positions and then it started to POUR and the event was cancelled. So yay outdoor yoga. Not so much.
Because Patty just gave me a snazzy new wallet that has a handy window for ID, it occurs to me I should really get a NYS non-drivers ID so I don't have to lug around my passport all the time. Maybe I will do this soon. Hopefully I can find my social security card to do so, as getting a new one of those is always difficult considering the amazing, totally not awesome situation where the Social Security Administration thinks my birthday is 3 days earlier than all other documentation I possess. I suspect this means I was born with a tail or something and had to have my birth certificate reissued when I was designated human (I jest, but there's a real issue here in that if this isn't just a paperwork glitch it indicates a couple of potentials that are a bit intense and getting it solved is going to be EXTREMELY complicated).
I have, as you know, traveled all over the place on my own, but mostly, in the last many years, I've only traveled with Patty or occasionally, friends and work colleagues. I am going to have to have all my ducks in a row for Bristol in a way I haven't in AGES. It's perfectly fine, of course, but I'm out of the habit.
ladyofthelog is broke. She also makes cool stuff and will not laugh at your fannish desires. (Do I have a Slytherin needlepoint pillow she made me as a gift? Yes I do). Check the link to possibly do business with her.
Hilary Clinton says gay rights are human rights. I do feel like the big showy stuff -- equal marriage rights and the repeal of DADT -- is still a big fucking mess with this administration, because they are afraid to do anything about issues that are easy for the general public to understand, but in terms of solving a lot of the death by 1,000 papercuts logistical shit that LGBT people deal with they are doing a great job that does have meaningful impact on the lives of LGBT people.
Tangentally, I'm hoping to have some time to make some angry social justice posts tonight, because there's some not getting it that's made me mad on the Internet this week.
