  • My office is located on the 14th floor of a 16 story office-building. Each floor employs about 100 or so people, and we have three small elevators. For months, one has been broken. They are replacing it, the note on it says, and it will be finished by April 2011. Today, a second one is listed as out. So our usual, wait in line for an elevator around 9am thing, has now turned into, wait on a line that goes out the front door of our building and will take two or three round trips of the elevator before you can get on it. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE.

  • Last night Patty and I went to that outdoor yoga thing. We got our free bags and mats and water, and I was all lying on mine being "now I nap!" and she was getting excited to do yoga and then the event started and there was rain. A lot of rain. We decided to run away. But then it slowed down, so we stopped and stayed, and did a few yoga positions and then it started to POUR and the event was cancelled. So yay outdoor yoga. Not so much.

  • Because Patty just gave me a snazzy new wallet that has a handy window for ID, it occurs to me I should really get a NYS non-drivers ID so I don't have to lug around my passport all the time. Maybe I will do this soon. Hopefully I can find my social security card to do so, as getting a new one of those is always difficult considering the amazing, totally not awesome situation where the Social Security Administration thinks my birthday is 3 days earlier than all other documentation I possess. I suspect this means I was born with a tail or something and had to have my birth certificate reissued when I was designated human (I jest, but there's a real issue here in that if this isn't just a paperwork glitch it indicates a couple of potentials that are a bit intense and getting it solved is going to be EXTREMELY complicated).

  • I have, as you know, traveled all over the place on my own, but mostly, in the last many years, I've only traveled with Patty or occasionally, friends and work colleagues. I am going to have to have all my ducks in a row for Bristol in a way I haven't in AGES. It's perfectly fine, of course, but I'm out of the habit.

  • [livejournal.com profile] ladyofthelog is broke. She also makes cool stuff and will not laugh at your fannish desires. (Do I have a Slytherin needlepoint pillow she made me as a gift? Yes I do). Check the link to possibly do business with her.

  • [livejournal.com profile] bodlon has alerted me to the existence of Captain Bisexual.

  • Hilary Clinton says gay rights are human rights. I do feel like the big showy stuff -- equal marriage rights and the repeal of DADT -- is still a big fucking mess with this administration, because they are afraid to do anything about issues that are easy for the general public to understand, but in terms of solving a lot of the death by 1,000 papercuts logistical shit that LGBT people deal with they are doing a great job that does have meaningful impact on the lives of LGBT people.

  • The NYS anti-bullying law that includes protections for LGBT students has finally been passed by our senate. Our assembly has passed it yearly since 2002. The governor is expected to sign it into law.

  • Tangentally, I'm hoping to have some time to make some angry social justice posts tonight, because there's some not getting it that's made me mad on the Internet this week.

  • Last night on Angel: "Spin the Bottle." Could we be more heavy-handed with this Gunn/Fred/Wesley drama? On the other hand, great execution of the "so were we in love?" issue with Cordy and Angel. Also, heartbreaking, Lorne signing "The Way We Were" considering the actor is dead; it completely made me tear up. And hilarious backstory. Fred was a little stoner freak! And Wesley -- man, not sure if I loved all that more for the backstory or for the jokes at his expense.

Btw, great ongoing character thing with Wesley? Have you noticed how he constantly turns his back on really dangerous people to dismiss them from his presence? Never sen a guy fight so hard to live who's also so damn suicidal and knows it.

Also, seriously? What's with Connor? He's just figured out that he wants to fuck chicks? It's not like he was pre-pubescent when he showed up again after the hell dimension. What is this ridiculous "Must. Fuck. Girl." plot-line and where is it going?

Getting your bday corrected is requesting a paper from Social Security then mailing it and a certified copy of your birth cetificate to their office. Or taking said paperwork to their office. I recommend bringing a photo id just in case. But it's not as painful as you might think. Although it is likely more of a PITA in your NYC than in my Podunk, PA. :)

Oh, well that's good news! Even if it won't help me find out if I was born with a tail.

Yup. It was that easy for me also. And mine was a difference of 6 years.

What I got from the Connor ooh girls thing was that he was raised with only one other human in that demon dimension. So women, especially Cordelia, were completely out of his experience until he came to our dimension. I think he needed to assimilate people in general before figuring out that he liked women.

Fred was a little stoner freak!

That didn't surprise me at all!

Fred taking the cross and doing a full-body wand-scanner thing with it is one of the funniest things that show has done.

Never sen a guy fight so hard to live who's also so damn suicidal and knows it.

Wesley is a walking bag of pain. The show has turned finding yet new ways to add to his mental torment into an art form.

Hopefully, you weren't born to American parents in an evil foreign country (like Canada! scary!) and then hopefully you weren't a 12 or 13 year old, giving an incomplete version of your name at the Social Security Bureau, because that could cause your case to be referred to Homeland Security. Even if you've had a driver's license in one state under your full name for 50 years, are an Air Force veteran of Korea, and have been married to a US citizen for >40 years, they can still question your citizenship and withhold your driver's license!

Sorry, still a little bitter about a fight over my father's Social Security/driver's license fight a few years ago.

Even though Whitehouse.gov says "President Obama also continues to support the Employment Non-Discrimination Act", his actual work on ENDA has been nonexistent so far as I can tell. His administration has been lukewarm on GLBT rights at best.

At best. IIRC, the anti-Prop 8 people were playing some recording from him denouncing gay marriage, in robocalls to black neighborhoods.

April 2011 seems like an awfully long time. Perhaps the Fire Marshall might be interested in the situation.

A line out the door for the elevator? That's nuts. Are there stairs? maybe you could hoof it up to the 4th floor and then hit the up button and get on the elevator more easily that way.
