Sep. 4th, 2010 02:11 amToday was the day that was actually scary for me, what with my academic panel. Having gotten through that, even with like 9 more panels to go or something, it's all smooth sailing for me now. I'll talk about some stuff.
Academic panel was AWESOME. Great audience. Inquisitive audience. Torchwood-familiar unangry audience. Just total thumbs up.
Gay Themes in the Whoniverse -- sometimes funny, sometimes really serious and interesting because the guys I was on stage with were really surprised by some of my comments, in the sense that fandom doesn't just happen on LJ -- elsewhere in fandom people are having totally different conversations (and don't, apparently, hate River Song). Super fun.
I've not really been partying or social. I got to the Marriott, have a drink, come back to the room and crash. Problem is I drink redbull and vodka here and crashing means staying up late staring at the Internet.
Wore a suit today. Changed into a dress at night 'cause I was too hot. Totally discovered what I already knew -- love the suit, totally get more attention in the dress, totally feel uncomfortable with my inability to reconcile my gender presentation with the rewards I get for different types of gender presentation. More when I'm not tired and redbull-vodka-y.
Tomorrow I start the day reading from ConSweet, because I've always wanted to start my morning reading a story containing the words "whiskey dick." I apologize in advance.
Heard that awful Kevin Rudolf song I've written most of ConSweet to in the Marriott bar tonight. Made my evening.
The con feels different this year, like a job I know the shape of. Maybe, by Sunday night I'll be melancholy and considering how we don't all put on our pants the same way and wondering what it's like to be a star and how alone or not Atlanta feels. I've got, after all, a track record to uphold. But right now, it's just a gig, and a pretty awesome one at that.
Oh, HILARITY! I finally caught an elevator in the Hyatt. And went up to the green room (first time in three years) and it was closed for cleaning. doh!
That's not all I got, but that's all the words I can put in order right now.
And I miss Patty.
