Patty report
Feb. 11th, 2011 10:42 am- No more snakes.
- It was a girl named Juhti not Judy. Oh my hearing and intercontinental calls. Sorry!
- The wild puppy died. *sadface*
- She had to go do object registration, so we're going to try again for a more than ten minute call tomorrow.

If you're not watching the Al Jazeera feed right now, you should be if you can.
Many of their correspondents are crying, talking about being born the week Mubarak came into power. There was just an interview with one women who was sobbing and she said, "This is everything I've ever cared about. As a woman. About Palestine. Now anything is possible."
Then a male correspondent: "I've seen people give birth, I've seen people get married. I've seen people graduate, and I have never seen happiness like this."

Nick Cave trivia/annoyance
Feb. 11th, 2011 12:54 pmSo I've just discovered Nick Cave's live album from the Abattoir Blues/Lyre of Orpheus tour. And it's great, but hey, that missing verse from Easy Money in Milan? Was that Nick Cave forgetting the lyrics to one of his songs again (although that happens less now than it did in the 80s and 90s) or was that "Italy isn't fond of the verse that makes it explicitly clear that part of this song is about male prostitution?"
Cranky. (This is one of my major auditory references for something I'm writing, so hearing a song I love, in an amazing version, missing the pivotal verse (seriously, the first time I heard the original version of the song, I had to rewind because I wasn't sure I'd actually heard it correctly), is really grumpy-making).

Mideast (and more) roundup
Feb. 11th, 2011 03:56 pmEgypt: You're up on that, right? And hey, Amr Moussa just resigned as head of the Arab League. Looks like he'll be running in the Egyptian elections when they happen.
Algeria: Ramping up police presence in preparation for Saturday protests.
Iran: Blocking BBC signals so residents can't see footage of Egypt.
Bahrain: Offered payments of $2,600+ to all families in appeasement effort. I told you Bahrain was nervous.
Syria: Useful AJE analysis here - http://english.aljazeera.net/indepth/features/2011/02/201129103121562395.html
Tunisia: Things there are still very fraught. That situation is very much ongoing despite initial ousters.
Saudi Arabia: I've got nothing other than for the first time I'm hearing analysts with a clue saying revolution is possible there in light of this.
Libya: Celebrations in the street for Egypt.
Gaza: Celebrations in the street for Egypt.
China: Has blocked Internet searches on Egypt.
