A draft would be a great idea. Probably the only way to kick-start the peace movement. The fact that there hasn't been an effective peace movement since the draft ended isn't a surprise to me.
When middle-class kids realize that a war on Iraq might mean that they actually have to go and fight people, rather than sending over poor kids who volunteer to do it for them, perhaps they'll be a lot less sanguine about it.
Well, I looked at that article and I tried to verify the information independantly and was unable to. I'm wary that it is accurate. I know everyone is afraid or hoping that the gov't will reinstitute the draft but I find the possibility unlikely. It is an unpopular government program and the gov't should realize that. We shall see. I just wish I could verify the validity of this article.
