I'm not sure why that first bit is heartbreaking either, although I agree and I wrote it. But without each other, they aren't quite enough for the world. And that both makes Kurt angry and is okay for him, because he's all about being a performer in a show as a foil to other people -- for as vain as he is, he understands needing someone else to play off of to shine (it's why most of high school was so hard for him as a performer, he had to do it alone so much). But I think that's more lost on Blaine, and I think the reality of it in their personal lives, even when they are performing is an uncomfortable spot for them both.
