Saw X-Men last night which had both too much and not enough going on it. Alan Cumming's Nightcrawler though was seriously great and when he goes into that bit about the symbols he's carved into his flesh being giving to mankind by the angel Gabriel, I just stopped, realized these were Enochian symbols, _accurate_ Enochian symbols and wanted a whole movie all about that. There were some other good moments, and some nice humour even if it i involved hitting us over the head really really hard with the really really obvious allegory stuff. Like Harry Potter though it hit lots of key moments without engaging you emotionally very often, and had us starving for more of great actors who were in it far too briefly. I'm all about the ensemble casts, but at a certain point, it's unweildy, especially if the group story isn't as compelling as the character performances.

Also saw a preview for the new Danny Boyle flick, which is a zombie movie and looks terrifying. I love Danny Boyle (Shallow Grave!) and I am so not about zombie movies but this looks brilliant. I was really uncomfortable during the preview though before it got to the zombie part and they were just talking about the spread of disease -- I thought of SARS and it got unfunny fast.

Various news on the various Alexander films, which are thankfully no longer in a race, today. Anthony Hopkins at Ptolemy in the Stone one. I see it, but I don't really see it. But hey, two years of Alexander... like I'm gonna bitch.

And then there's this (okay, okay, not movie news): http://www.playbill.com/news/article/79422.html -- which makes my wicked little 80s heart soar.
