sundries

- Diner en Blanc: some good, some bad, so glad we did it. My arms are killing me; my shoulder blades are going to erupt in bruises from carrying the chairs at any moment (my hip is already bruised) and our bed is covered with confetti.

- Hurricane: this shit is looking more and more serious. They are closing the subway system preemptively. We did some emergency prep yesterday, but will do some more today. I expect we will lose power, and NYC is notoriously inefficient about getting it back on when that happens.

- SF: We leave Tuesday. Assuming air travel is not completely snarled.

- There was a thing I was being sort of weird about early in the week, and finally just did. Then I was getting all "oh shit, maybe I shouldn't have done that." But now it's all okay! I did good.

- WE ARE GETTING OUR COUCH TODAY.

My thoughts are with you and yours throughout the storm.

Enjoy your couch!

Yay couch! I was so excited and felt very grown-up when ours arrived.

Be safe in the storm. You still have my cell number? Would like to see you in SF if you have time. We'll be in town until appx September 9th.

I totally hear you on the "Feeling like a grown-up" thing upon buying one's first couch. Mine's a big red velvet-ish thing.

I have an aunt in Delaware, and while tornadoes touched down this evening where she lived, she's doing OK. With any luck, Irene will have worn itself out by making landfall before getting to NYC. My brother-in-law's folks live on LI, and I am thinking of all of you guys this weekend.

I think that you are in one of the pictures in the article on gothamist.com:

So rarely do these things come together... your couch is just in time for being forced to stay inside.
Have a good time in SF and aside from In-n-Out, try Buy-Rite for the most amazing artisanal ice cream and sundaes, and Citizen Cake/Orson.

I was surprised to see that NYC was going to pre-emptively shut down the subway. Makes sense once I thought about it. Yay new couch! Did you get to huddle up on the couch waiting for the storm to blow over?
