I really have missed your presence on LJ. I understand you're very involved about thinking about this show, but I miss your other kinds of posts. In many respects, i see you as someone who taught me how to write a blog and I feel the loss of your voice - even, perhaps more so, when I disagreed with you or was frustrated with what you were saying.

In the late '60s the cartoonist Robert Crumb talked about how he was influenced by another cartoonist - the scabrous S. Clay Wilson. Wilson, Crumb reported, showed him he could draw stories about anything; that there were no limits. Your own blog work had a similar effect on me. I saw it and thought, "This is what I could be doing." I miss your stories about piano bar, the fencing, the arguments with your parents, the fights with the Germans. I miss the weird lapses when you would pass from one relationship to another. I miss your observations and the accounts of your struggles.

I'm not telling you to change, or to return to us in the way you used to present yourself. I fully recognize that you may have well moved on - and outgrown what you were doing. I am also very used to resenting it when other people tell me how to run my own blog: what to write about, what not to write about, etc. At the same time, I would be disappointed with myself if I didn't express my own debt to you.
