I just saw Matrix2.

It is very very very smart. I understood it (I'd say at least 70% of the theater was at a loss), but I couldn't explain large chunks of it to you. Many deeply freaky monologues.

It is also quite sexy.

Also provoked tons of nervous laughter from an audience that did not know what to do with it.

Very uncomfortable, noncommunal viewing experience.

Go fucking see it.

Oh and it bloody references EVERYTHING.

I will also note, at greater length another time, that it oddly hit on a lot of extremely strange, not personal buttons so much, but definitely ideas that have been at the forefront lately because of a couple of writing projects. This was, remarkably unexpected and somewhat unsettling, as I was looking forward to getting away from that for a few hours.

thank you for this.

I'm seeing it tomorrow afternoon at 4pm. The reviews I've read have been somewhat mixed, but on the other hand, I know that most of the concepts dealt with in the first one weren't exactly all that commonly discussed.

Since I trust your opinion, this is actually reassuring me. :)

Thank you. This review is distracting me from the ultimate disapointment of not being able to be in NYC to see the movie open. I'm seriously considering the wait until it comes out on DVD rather than see it surrounded by people with blinking twelves waiting for them at home.

the only criticism i have with this movie is that it felt like they ended it 5 minutes into the next one. however, the rest of the movie was so great, this is a piddling criticism.

i retract my earlier statement. i've had time to reflect and now i think i understand something that had to percolate a bit. the movie is brilliant.

I know what you just figured out, and yeah it is.
What was weird viewing it is that I was about 10 minutes ahead of the explanations/revelations being dropped on us through the whole thing, and that _scared_ me -- didn't feel predictable, felt fucking weird.

i can only put it down to the fact that i was REALLY tired when i watched this movie that i didn't pick up on it right away. bits of the film keep creeping into my frontal lobes and revealing themselves.

it's cool but also rather creepy.

Good, I was worrying about that. All the reviews we've heard are like, "Well, if you like action and effects, go see it" - but action and effects were only window dressing on the original Matrix. Thanks for posting this. :)
