the status of November elections

The quote is legitimate, and comes about 3/4s of the way down in this press briefing transscript: http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2004/07/20040708-15.html

That's terrifying. A friend of mine, before seeing Fahrenheit 9/11 with me last week, told me about Cheney and Rumsfeld's (apparently declassified) plans to assume control of the government in case of a national upset back in the Ford administration. He said he had no doubt they were working up something similar this year, and that we'd never get the chance to vote them out at all. Though I'm the first to admit I know hardly anything about any of their decades-old machinations, I scoffed and called him a paranoid cynic. But holy hell... there's something about the slipperiness of McClellan's answer, implying that, well, we sure would like to hold elections and everything, but if circumstances forbid, y'know, our hands just might be tied, so don't get your hopes up. Eek. Ack. Urk. It's really goddamn unnerving.

Yup, I blogged a similar item on the same day; not exactly the same words, but another confirmation that the admin is clearly readying the field in case they decide the only way to win this time is to suspend the elections "for our own good." I've been predicting this for about a year now.

Why aren't more people talking about this?
