It can be done. Of course, you have to have a more sizable chunk of RAM and free HD space to run OS X than 9. Just a thought. You can AIM or email me if you have further questions.
The main difference is the size and storage capacity.
The first gen had an analog (moving parts) scroll wheel and buttons. Plus, it was only 5 gigabytes.
The second gen had the current digital scroll wheel/buttons and came in more storage sizes (10, 20 gig). The dock connector had not been introduced yet.
