Sep. 19th, 2004 12:52 pmAh... it's the men's fashion section in the New York Times. And as usual with the New York Times fashion sections (the women's fall fashion stuff they did recently followed this pattern) -- I mostly approve, but I'm also wondering why the Times seems startled that these things are in... or why no one noticed these things would be the obvious choices in light of the current cultural moment.
All of that said... what is up with the return of the New Romatic thing? I'm down with it in terms of the faux military styling, strange layers and great fabrics (hi! have you seen my wardrobe?). Also totally happy with the eyeliner on guys thing. HOWEVER... I loathe gaudy jewlery on men, Adam Ant haircuts and really skinny ties (_maybe_ with an oxford and a sweater vest if they are going for that young prep school thing) and I want to know, who the fuck thought any of those things were a good idea? because it's distracting from all the stuff that is a good idea.
Meanwhile, must retrieve my little oxblood wingtips from my parents house. I've had those shoes for fifteen years, and that fact is finally justified.
Meanwhile, off to pick up dry cleaning, and to bring my down coat in. It's so cold out I feel like I need it.
Today: Some freelance work to do and I want to at least cut out the pattern and maybe the bodice pieces for the dress.
The world seems quiet today, and while a relief, I am not sure what I think of that.
Must catch up on Netflix later. Must.

Date: 2004-09-19 10:58 am (UTC)2. Gaudy jewelry is SO in out here. I saw one person wearing a faux diamond ( read plastic ) Superman logo on a chain, and he was way down with his bad self, yo.
* sigh *
Silver rings, and Issey for me, thanks.

Date: 2004-09-19 11:10 am (UTC)Now granted, I'm not going to run out and get a skinny red glitter tie (used to have one) or a skinny black tie with piano keys on it (ditto - oh, the shame, the shame!) but I like neckwear, in general, so if the tie comes back at all, I'm pleased.
And woot for eyeliner on boys. Now MY pet peeve is those enormous fucking shoulder pads. Heaven preserve us from their like.
