The Merck debacle is one of the major issues I'm covering right now at work, and it's just _insane_, and is going to be a lot uglier before it gets any better.
What's additionally amazing is that Vioxx is not any more efficacious than aspirin, it just doesn't aggravate people's stomachs.
This drug never deserved to be a blockbuster, never deserved to make the money it did, and now has harmed a ton of people, and it looks like the FDA's willful negligence is as stunningly abhorant as Merck's dishonesty about the whole thing.
