rmSo I'm seeing Closer tonight at midnight. Remember how American Beauty made a lot of people sort of intensely angry? I think this is going to be like that, only more pronounced, more common and more justified. The reviews are mixed and intense. I'm really tremendously excited for it.
The big initial criticisms seem to be "why do we care if bad things happen to bad people?" and "no one talks like this." Having read and loved the play, I think my answers are (and we'll see what the film's are) -- "because sometimes we're all bad people" and "but in our own minds, don't we often wish we did?" Also, my ex- and I sort of did communicate that way.
ETA: Whoops. That didn't happen. Tomorrow evening, clearly.
