So far things are going as smoothly as they possibly can, in large part because of all of you, and because the Citibank people near my office are actually nice and helpful. I have to make some phone calls, and may have to return to the branch later today, and live off quarters until possibly Monday, but it's getting done.

The Germans have peripherally optimistic news as well, but because things are always vague and peripheral here, I do not take them seriously, and do not intend to rely on these reassurances. I will allow people to help me, and if I have the good fortune to be able to pay them back before I leave for my trip, so be it -- postcards all around.

These things said, I couldn't eat yesterday, stayed up too late, and have almost fainted three times this morning.

Duh, I have been my usual oblivious absent-minded self for the last few months. Please send me mail because I am unsure of your email again (I am prepared to toss that computer and just get on from work at this point) - I'm now on gmail with the usual firstname.lastname thing.

We have a family friend in Sydney who always has an empty guest room and/or whose husband is a hotel manager and may be able to give you a better deal if you're not locked in. If nothing else, they will be good for a home-cooked real meal or two (of course, you may wind up sharing that with my parents, since they are headed down under sometime this month for a six week trip)....erg. Just don't let my mom in the kitchen...*grin*

I actualyl got a phenomenal deal on my housing, but I'd still love to drop them a line and say hello if you think it would be fun for all concerned.

And lol, your mom.

I think you'd enjoy them - mom met her when she was a stewardess on Kiwi air. SHe's the lady who came for a month when the twins were born and kicked my parents our of the house (they took me with) and when we came back a week(end?) later, she'd made new curtains for my room. This when her own youngest was barely into kindergarden. Just nice, well traveled people, and I think they may be into opera too.

Send me email so I can send you her contact info, please!

Oh - you're in luck re: my mom, since she leaves sydney for her tour/cruise to new zealand a full week before you depart, and is only in sydney to change planes on the return.

Those pesky Germans. You'd think they'd have learned their lesson after that thrashing we gave them in 1918.

I very much hope that all of your financial worries work out before your trip. I very much wish that I could do more to help than giving distant blessings and encouragement.

The distant blessings and encouragements help so much though. Faith works.
