One of the great things about my job is the weird stuff I learn reading some of the weird newspapers and magazines I have to read for it. One of the ones I always dread is Institutional Investor, because it's probably the hardest one to work on, and I'm really the only one who understands it easily, so I always get stuck with it.

BUT... great article about commercial excess in the new Russia, which is actually something I'm profoundly disturbed by, mainly through my minimal dealings with Russians here in the U.S. (some will remember a girl I tutored last year). There's a note in this piece that couture fashion is currently "tsarist" featuring britches and knee-length coats for men, and colorful peasant dresses for women. Yes kids, world domination and the search for Prince Charming is in via garments that cost $1,000 - $10,000 each.

One of the conversations I keep having with people lately is "Maybe all my friends got turned onto this stuff at the same time, but what's with the sudden Regency and Victorian reenactment stuff EVERYWHERE?" I think there are actually a lot of factors at play there, including coincidence, but the one I've time to mention and is relevant here is that the gap between the haves and the have-nots is widening the world over, and I think it leaves people in the middle grasping frantically for the shores, even if it's in memory and play.

Meanwhile, the production of Counsellor-at-Law I was in made the list of New York's best theatre 2004 in The Daily News.

Finally, I check on United Flight 839 every day to see how often it's on-time and stuff. Wow. From what I've been seeing, I can expect this to be a big non-punctual pain in my ass.
