More soon, but all these pics are public and got by got to via the photo link in my profile -- I've nto annotated what they all are yet, but you can flip through things.

Trim, the sailor cat, his plaques and master.

From Circular Quay rail station.

From the Darling Harbour ferry.

Billabong cat!

Candy-colored Newtown in the rain.

If you don't know, don't ask.

One of many to come. Tihs one shot from the ferry.

My family is on a US version of this at Ellis Island. This made me just bawl and bawl -- it has quotes from immigrants throughout the history of Australia on it too, and it hit me weirdly and hard.

It's really spectacular. I adore that style of advertising/ characters -- so over-the-top!

Sounds like you're having such a cool time. I'm very happy for you.

man, what an amazing experience.

that little statue of the cat and the words written about him are so sweet -- would that every cat had such a loving owner.

my friend jen's dad was researching the First Fleet for a while, and he found a very old copy of the memoirs which inspired the play "Our country's good". I think about that play a lot when anyone mentions Australia, and your photo of the wall with the history on it made me think of the thousands of transported men and women who went to australia of someone else's will than their own.

They do a good job of including those histories on the wall (which has quotes from all sorts of people as well) -- also the Aboriginals, since they too have a history pre-Australia.

It's the greatest place. I'd encourage everyone to come here. I observed to someone tonight that it seems such a large undertaking and that Americans are perhaps disinclined to visit a place if they think that for finance or logistics that would be unable to return. It is so very far away from everything, even itself. I think it frightens us.

It's really wonderful here. I'd encourage anyone to visit. As many people have told me to expect, there are things about it that really seem like the 1950s, but a strange one that never really existed.

There's a huge freedom in being not just this far from my world, but the rest of the world as a whole.
