a few words to the wise

Don't _ever_ drink absinthe and learn lines from Macbeth. I had the _worst_ dreams last night, generally having nothing to do with acting or Macbeth (which is sort of amazing, having cornered the market on acting and actor-related nightmares over the last year) but the world splitting apart and the end of the human race and good stuff like that.

Ow.

I do know my lines though.

Hi There!

I've always maintained that the first part of that warning is enough.

[has absinthe flashbacks]

Heheheh. I'm tremendously fond of the stuff but find it's affect on me somewhat unpredictable.

So, not ever having had it, what does absinthe taste like?

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2005-01-13 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
It depends on the absinthe. Some have a lot of that stingy alcohol taste, but mostly not the good ones. Generally it's compared to anise and pernod which gets it generally right although some can be fruitier than others and some more pine/woodsy.

Absinthe is just nasty stuff. I also seem to have a high tolerance against the wormwood poison because no little green fairy visited me when I tried it.

I'm quite fond of the good stuff. Having had one particularly hideous encounter with some cheap nasty food-colored Czech stuff, never again will I go there.

So,
a) What kind of absinthe did you have last night?
2) What's the most absinthe-specific effect you've had? Personally, I like the "clearer" feel of the intoxication, but can't say I've ever gotten much else.

I tend towards non-specific auditory and tactile hallucination -- thesensation of a brush on the arm that isn't there.

What brands are available there?

As you may know, the brand selection in the liquor stores here in Canada suck ass.

So amazingly jealous. Have been without good absinthe ( or any ) since I left NYC.

Absinthe is frequently the catalyst to strange things. In my case it resulted in the firming up of the whole "Don't light Carolyn on fire" rule.

Sometimes these things just need to be established.

(Random tourist who came here through my roommate [livejournal.com profile] ekatarina's journal. In case you're curious.)
