Batman Begins

I don't have time to really write about it now, but I learned more about movie making from watching this film than anything I've seen in a long long time. It's phenomenal. And is one of the most well-paced, best shot things I've seen in ages (Kingdom of Heaven was gorgeously shot, but the pacing was wack, I assume the DVD fixes this). I have some peeves with the design people, mainly because 99.9% of the design was flawless and the places where I felt like they made mistakes were so minor I can't believe it even happened.

Interesting to see a Gotham City that is clearly New York, but physically modeled on Chicago (and also really having some design heritage both from the ruined Manhattan of AI and a couple of structures that's like "oh yeah, those are the opera house sails in chrome, what's up with that?"). I was mostly very satisfied with this choice, but they use the same bridge that features so prominently in Road to Perdition, and while it's a stunning structure that it's hard not to want to use, perhaps it ties us too thoroughly to the real place?

Also, Cillian Murphy? OMG.

More later.
