In which I am harassed for being a Jew
Oct. 15th, 2005 05:59 pmFor the record, I've had people say antisemitic things to me before, but like, conversationally. You know. "Oh, you're such a Jew" or some bizarre inaccurate assesment about Jews thinking I wasn't one. But never with anger. Just stupid superiority, which is what most people do about all sorts of people all the time. I'm not saying it's not bad, I'm jsut saying it's unremarkable. common, and not even very alarming.
I've never had anyone just scream at me, "You Jew!" as if I needed no insults, as I was already the worst thing a person could already be.
I suppose I'll eventually find this illuminating.

Date: 2005-10-15 11:10 pm (UTC)Both my sister and I have been in the bizarre situation of people perceiving us as Jewish, saying (really pretty mild but definitely 'we are like each other'-type) anti-gentile things to us, later realizing we weren't in fact Jewish, and apologizing way out of proportion to what happened, as if they had somehow offended us by thinking we were Jewish.
Uh, no, I didn't think it was an insult, and whatever you said wasn't that bad or I would have said something in the first place.
