Some random person (I'm not sure who they are -- maybe we were in a show together?) included me on a distribution claiming that Target stores do not support Veterans groups, but only arts groups and gay and lesbian groups and *gasp* they give money to France.

Among other things, the message content is false (see: http://www.snopes.com/politics/military/target.asp)

But I was also offended as hell, and sent this reply back to everyone on the distribution (including the girl's mother and father):
This is FALSE and thoroughly explained at
http://www.snopes.com/politics/military/target.asp

Among other things you can find at the above link:

"Target's stated policy is that they provide grants at the corporate level for programs involving the arts, education, and family violence prevention, and donates at the local level to a variety of charitable causes. The line about Target's responding to inquiries by stating that they provide corporate grants only for 'gay and lesbian causes' is a falsity added to later versions of the message."

I need hardly point out that the addition of gay and lesbian causes to the false message is designed to harm a corporation by preying on people's homophobia and bias. While we're all entitled to our beliefs, as a queer-American (and one that supports our troops), I'm offended by having this dropped in my mailbox.

Please take me off this distribution and fact check in the future.

Thank you.

If you're going to be a bigot; you're going to be called on it. Thanks for playing.

In all seriousness, if the latter part had been true, I might be more inclined to shop at Target.

Thanks for this. I'll post a link to the Snopes article later.

Donuts to dollars some wankstain at Wal-Mart planted that; Target is their biggest competitor at the urban level, and more popular among young marrieds.

I don't usually go in for conspiracy theory, but Wal-Mart's ultra-conservative policies are well-known, and it just wouldn't surprise me at all...
