The Rotten Tomatos website is particularly slow today, perhaps thanks to the hordes of people just like me flocking to it to read the scathingly cruel and hysterically funny reviews of Gigli. Of course, burried in with the hate are a few real gems of quasi-intelligent thought -- you know, stuff about the existensial void and every generation getting the celebrities it deserves. I think I have to go cry now. Anyway. Can't. Stop. Laughing.

That said, as ridiculously low as I tend to feel the common denominator has sunk, the evidence is, people want entertainment to be better than it is. Otherwise movies like 28 Days Later and my Big Fat Greek Wedding, wouldn't out perform things like The Hulk and Gigli. So what the fuck?

Meanwhile, this is a fascinating, astounding and scary piece -- http://www.nytimes.com/2003/08/03/magazine/03DOWNLOW.html for a whole shitload of reasons, including just how weird (and dangerous) identity politics get.

I sincerely hope that the moron I heard of who referred to "Ben & Jen" as the Tracy and Hepburn of our generation was slapped...soundly...in the teeth.

That was indeed a fascinating and disturbing article. We have a program here where barbers have safe sex info and supplies that they distribute free to DL men but I don't know how much headway they are making.
