Okay, Trader Joe's owns my soul. I just had the frozen tempura I picked up the other day -- fabulous! Between this and the great ground beef and fabulous cookies I got there I am utterly sold.

Sadly, you're only getting 75% of the Trader Joe's experience. The ones in CA would go buy out most or all of the stock of small NoCal wineries which were usually excellent and sell the cases for very cheep. Perfect for skinflints like my father who refuses to pay more than $5 or so for a bottle of wine.

That's one of the few things I miss about CA. They stock wine and liquor in the grocery stores. As long as the doors to Ralphs are open, you can get both orange juice and vodka.

And less problematic than Louisiana where they stock full proof liquor in gas stations.

I've been itching to go to the store but there's always a line to get into the store when I've walked by.

They are opening a wine store next door in a few weeks.

Their pre-made Indian fare is pretty good, too. I particularly like their Biryani, samosas and garlic Naan.

They only had regular naan when I was there the other day or I would have picked some up.

and same for their simmer sauces. i heard about the indian curry simmer sauce from a type-A indian woman with no time to cook. i also like the thai curry and marsala sauces. all cook in 20 minutes and you can make it with fresh chicken, tofu or beef and frozen veggies (their sugar snap peas are excellent) for a completely no-hastle dinner and good leftovers.

I haven't been yet. I was in union square on thursday and wondered where, exactly, it was and didn't want to ask anyone and look like an ass. Now that I've mapquested it in the privacy of my own home, I'll probably go next time I go out. heh.
