Finally, a new DVD player that isn't from the dawn of time and works right! Which means I've finally just seen the GoF extras. I totally get why the Snape/Karkaroff argument was cut, because the scene is just wonky pacing-wise, but damn, it's hysterical and oddly may be the movie moment that works the best with the Snape characterization in Descensus.

Is it worth it to get the DVD then? I've been waffling on it...

The extras are pretty good, if you care about that sort of crap (which I do). There's lots of set/design stuff on it, and all the Yule Ball (omg those kids can't dance!) stuff is hilarious, and the extra scenes are cool (but as usual, you can't select them but have to watch them all, which means being subjected to the horrible entirety of the Hippogriff song). None of the extras are on teh regular edition though, you have to get the two disc special edition.

Arrgh. I heard that thing was expensive and "not worth it."

But those specials sound rad.

The interview with the trio is really funny. They get asked which actors are most like their chracters and which aren't, and the interviewer starrts by asking their opinion on Alan Rickman, and after the boys try dutifully to say he's not scary, Emma Watson is all "he's actually sort of scar" and it's very very funny. we also find out that Brendon Gleeson laughs like a girl. But again, I'm not sure anyone who is less of a geek about HP would care.

Ahh...I was concerned b/c the person who gave that review actually is an HP nerd. Maybe not on the same level as us... ;)

Well, i think it depends what you care about, or to what degree you've gotten used to the fact that the DVD releases have never been kind to the adult fans in terms of extras and interviews.

I've actually found very little official products that are "kind" to the adult fans.

The HP-related clothing at Hot Topic is maybe the best stuff I've found. (And that's a horrible place to admit to shopping at!)

I would love to see a series of sanctioned novels a la Star Trek and Star Wars. But I know that won't happen. *sigh*

It would be really cool especially if it was used to backstory or side character stuff.

I still regret not buying teh Slytherin track jacket from Hot Topic when they had it, and now it's long gone and a fortune on Ebay. The GF and I have some pretty hardcore geeky stuff, but then she got me Snape's wand for Christmas, and I got her Lucius' walking stick. She also has the tine turner thingee (although the Japanese version, not the Noble Collection one).

ARGH.

I had the plain Hogwarts track jacket, and I left it at a Karaoke place last sumemr. Gone, never getting that one back. *sniff*

I would love to see all the backstory and "backstage" stuff that we didn't get to see in the books. *wishes hard*

in Britain, they have "adult covers" to the books, so you don't have to carry around a book with a child's cover and feel silly. if there is a market for those, why not a market for grown-up extras on the DVDs?

Sorry to bother you here but I was wondering if I could promo my rpg [livejournal.com profile] teasdaleeol at your reg commun. I know it's not in the same time period as the reg, it's set in 1836, but I thought I'd just ask.

As long as you clearly state that it's not Regency, the time period is close enough that it may be of interest to readers. Go ahead -- no graphics that are too wide for most friends views.
