It's a good article, that doesn't, I don't think, go far enough in differentiating between polygyny and group marriage, or examining its internal assumption that legal polygamy, group marriage or chain marriage, in the U.S. would inherently skew such than it's men who would suffer (although I think this is true, for a number of reasons, including conservative relgious groups involvement in it, and male vs. female attitudes about sharing and acruing resources). Certainly, the situation of "the lost boys" as those teen outcasts from polygamous communities are called in Utah and Arizona, is a tremendous tradgedy, and one no one really knows how to solve, the boys included, many of whom just want to go home and many of whom want to make it in the secular, non-polygamous world, don't have the skills, education or social knowledge to do so.
