I have an audition NOW that I can't wear makeup to, because I've just discovered my lipstick of choice isn't gluten free.

I. hate. this. shit.

It is expensive and humiliating.

ETA: And I'm going to have to buy a whole range of gluten-free makeup and lug it to every set I go to and hope it covers what they want me in.

There's wheat in lipstick? I thought it was all whale and endangered cute baby animals.

Sorry, I'll quite being a bastard. Here, I will use my google-fu for good and not evil. Links to products, possibly shampoo and conditioners in there somewhere.

I never even thought of dietary concerns of makeup before. Sorry to hear about the lipstick, but I admire your conviction to do the gluten-free thing all the way.

Two words: Bare Escentuals. I see from a celiac message board that all their makeup is gluten free.

Well, I get a MAC discount for being SAG, and MAC is used on set a lot, so that's double good news.

I think that most Burt's Bees products are g-free. If you are not exhausted after your big day today, give me a call to celebrate the audition.

Trivia: there's a particular burts bees lip balm that I swear will heal any wound better than neosporin.

And yup, I shall call tonight.

I'm curious about the gluten makeup/hair products issue in general (although not in lipstick, because I know I end up injesting my lipstick on a regular basis.) Do you get enough absorption through the skin that it causes a problem (because I would have assumed it was a digestion not a contact issue), or are you being extra-cautious?

I'm being extra cautious in part because gluten ingestion, if I'm a true celiac and not just wheat-allergic (something I won't know until I have insurance) causes permanent damage to the intestine. It's not like if I fuck up, I just don't feel well -- it permanently hampers my health a little bit at a time.

I've also had some skin issues that have coincided with this thing and now seem to be abating, so at least for right now, I'm going the whole hog with it.

Glad you've got that sorted out - and glad to hear you have a MAC discount, 'cos that's what I was about to suggest. There are a few MAC lipsticks that have gluten, however.

Here's a good resource for cosmetics and gluten:
