HP trivia question

Does anyone know the actual date Snape went to Dumbledore to, presumably, turn spy. I know we know "after Harry's parents died," but is there an actual date? I've just had a crackpot theory occur to me, and I need to know if cannon contradicts it, which I'm almost sure it doesn't.

Wikipedia puts the death of the Potters in Oct. 31, 1981. Dunno if that helps.
