G – hard-R; this chapter G
Author’s Notes:
  • If you don’t know what this is, please read this: http://rm.livejournal.com/727358.html
  • This story was originally written in late-2001; despite a recent tune-up, it is in no way compliant with the current state of the HP universe.
  • Your feedback and commentary are always welcome, even for a time capsule such as this.
  • If you’re looking for slash, het, poly, Book-6 compliant Slytherin backstory please visit Fascilis Descensus Averno a WIP written with [livejournal.com profile] kalichan. It features Severus Snape, Lucius & Narcissa Malfoy, Bellatrix & Rodolphus Lestrange and Regulus Black and mostly takes place in 1979 – 1981 but has forays both significantly forward and back in time. It is also a multimedia project.
Disclaimer: It’s JKR’s world, I just mess about with it.

"Late night snack?" Dumbledore asked so softly one could almost think he was merely muttering to himself.

Snape jumped. "You startled me," he said quietly as he applied mustard to a sandwich.

"It's not like you to let your guard down. Still brooding?"

"I wasn't aware that I was brooding, Albus. I thought I was busy being furious about Allosia’s presence in this castle."

"You're brooding; trust me. Now what's good this evening?" he asked, turning to a house elf, which began scurrying about to prepare a plate.

"Would you have even told me she was coming?" Snape asked, trying to overlook Dumbledore's perpetual state of vague amusement.

"It probably would have slipped my mind. It was good of her to owl you," he said benignly.

    Snape made a face.

"I really need you two to work this out, if not with each other, with yourselves."

    "Tell her that," he snapped.

"I have." He paused. "I know you've lost a lot, but Allosia isn't something you have to lose. She still wants to be your friend."

"Do you know what I did to her?" Snape asked, incredulous.

"I know more about it than she does, Severus."

"Oh. God," he said and passed a hand over his face.

Dumbledore patted Snape's arm as the younger man tried not to flinch. "It's no reason to continue being awful to her."

Snape just looked at him. "I have work to do, but thank you, really, for giving me a home here." Considering the perpetual precision of the man’s enunciation, it was difficult to determine just how much bitterness lurked in the statement. Dumbledore was used to ignoring such questions when it came to Snape though, knowing the thanks were at least sincere.

He waved his hand vaguely at the younger man, as if to say, it was nothing, and then nibbled on something from the plate the house elves had prepared for him. "You really should try this cheese, Severus, excellent, excellent."

    You're such a wonderful writer.
    (unconnected from the next statement)
You make not advancing the plot while horribly increasing the reader's curiosity an art form :)

    Thank you.

Try Descensus if you're up for a very different animal. It's more graphic in terms of both sex and violence, but it has a very sweet nature in odd places.
