Project Runway Season 3 begins
(speaking of, I want to do an article on sewing terms that will help people understand the show better -- any suggestions, either from the experienced sewer or the people watching who are all "what the fuck is that?")

Basically the repurposed bitterness about Oliver Stone's Alexander. You've heard it all before. Repeatedly.

I'm often all "what the fuck is that?" while watching Project Runway, but it has little or nothing to do with the terminology they use.

As someone who skims, I just want to say that "sewer" is a really awful thing to call a person. Even one who sews.

Only awful in print, of course.

sewing terms/items that people might not get:

-draping

-cutting/draping "on the bias" versus "against the bias" and the various effects each will have on the final product

-seam allowances

-how runway fashions translate into the mainstream items they'll find in stores

And for the love of gawd, will someone please explain why some woman in the lobby of my building today was wearing my grandmother's valence as a skirt?

lol! Thank you for this. I was definitely going to explain the "bias" thing, maybe with pictures, but this really helps.

Interestingly, the airing of the Miss USA gown episode coincided rather well with the airing of the actual pageant, at which Miss USA was most assuredly NOT wearing the winning garment from PR.

ahahahah. I missed it this year (and still haven't seen that PR episode either actually)

I didn't watch the pageant, but I saw a news blurb about it this morning so I googled the website to see if she wore the winning dress. Nope. Interesting. She went against what she told them she wanted on the show, too.
