Season 1 of Rome is out on DVD now. A few more Judy's Book (ugh) B&N gift cards and it can be mine (waaaay not cheap). Just the reminder that the thing is out has reminded me of all the hot hot hot on that show. I mean, it just melts my brain -- Ciaran Hinds, James Purefoy (naked James Purefoy, I might add), Tobias Menzies and Polly Walker. Much too much hot.

It's Wednesday and that means Project Runway!

Friday means Snakes on a Plane. CNN actually has an article about whether it can live up to the hype. Don't they mean down? I mean... come on! Snakes on a plane!

The other day I was ranting to someone about pop-culture related stuff in the Asia-Pacific region and was basically told "that's a killer dissertation in post-colonial studies," which it is. Too bad I'd have to live to be 150 to even begin to do all the things I want to do. Being an academic doesn't seem like part of the plan. One day I need to stop feeling like that makes me a moron.

Must write AC articles tonight, work on some Descensus stuff, maybe work on some non-Descensus fic, respond to some emails, etc.

August is the deadest month for auditions. This is always true, has always been true, but I have to keep reminding myself that nothing is going on not because I'm in a state, but because nothing is going on.

Oh, just saw something. I know you don't use them, but there's a free "Snapes on a Plane" icon in [livejournal.com profile] neitherday's journal.

Hehehe, yeah I totally saw it and giggled. Jaida has a sticker of it apparently that she's bringing to our viewing of SoaP on Friday.

I guess I don't get the whole Snakes on a Plane thing. There's snakes. On a plane.

How the fuck is that entertaining?

I think it's the sheer blinding stupidity factor.

LMAO. Well, now that's probably the best reason I've heard yet. Though I did find Samuel L. Jackson amusing when he was discussing it last night on The Daily Show.

Too bad I'd have to live to be 150 to even begin to do all the things I want to do. Being an academic doesn't seem like part of the plan.

1) With luck, both of us will, the tech to do so seem likely to exist in 10-20 years.

2) One needn't be an academic to publish a book on pop-culture analysis designed for the general public. Given the market for such things, if you could turn it into an analysis suitable for public consumption, you might well have something that could be both fun and profitable to do and would take far less time and trouble than becoming an academic.
