*crawls under rock*

So I wrote a random article for AC on Harry Potter podcasts, which was, of course, not completist, because I only listen to a few. Mostly it was a way to make a few $$.

Now it's linked on Leaky Cauldron.

I know I should think this is cool, but instead I am feeling all "ZOMG! Everyone hates me! Am afraid of fandom. Eek!" about it. And today I was going to write a wizard rock article.

*hides*

Wizard rock!!!

*idly friends you* We have some people in common, and you're a good friend of RM's, and we very likely will room at Phoenix together so...yeah. :p

[identity profile] tsarina.livejournal.com 2006-08-26 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
So you are going to be a roommate then?

[identity profile] upstart-crow.livejournal.com 2006-08-26 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
My girlfriend is really worried about money right now, since she's got grad school to worry about, so she's kind of balking on giving me a straight answer about whether we're doing Phoenix or not -.-; I'll bother her again tonight and tell her you two need to know asap, as do I since I'm submitting two essays for early acceptance.

But it looks like we probably will. I just need her to say so :)

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2006-08-26 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, get her on AC too -- it's how I'm paying for PR.

[identity profile] upstart-crow.livejournal.com 2006-08-26 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
*giggle* Yeah. I'll invite her tonight :). Thanks so much again for letting us know about it.

Don't fear the fandom! Congrats :)

I am desperate for money. How does one write for AC?

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2006-08-26 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm a bloody idiot. I should have thought to tell you about this. CLick the thing below, register, write on anything. Most stuff is accepted for publication and paid within 5-7 business days. $3 - $40 per article, average is $10. Pay rates go up as you demonstrate you can provide page views. Rates are also determined by keyword density, so never use "it" or "that" but keep renaming the thing, even if it sounds like crap.

No no, you're not an idiot!! Thank you so much for telling me all about this, and for telling me to rename like that. :)

This'll be great!

I rarely take mroe than 20 minutes writing anything for them -- as such, I find it pretty easy to manage about $30/hour on the site.

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2006-08-26 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Also don't waste time on movie reviews -- they pay shit if you get money at all.

[identity profile] upstart-crow.livejournal.com 2006-08-26 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Got agreement and am reading through it now. Do they demand exclusive rights to your article? It seems like they do, and mostly I wouldn't have a problem with this except in cases where I may need to work from my past research when writing a new piece (I think I should give them some articles about Utah culture, for example).

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2006-08-26 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
You can sell stuff for exclusive or non-exclusive rights -- you decide on a case by case basis. I've done some of both for various reasons. Exclusive rights net you a few dollars more. Most of the crap I write for them is product reviews or acting advice or just really random crap that I'd do in much more detail and quality for someone else, such that the exclusive factor wouldn't matter.

Cool. That works for me. :D

[identity profile] pennswoods.livejournal.com 2006-08-26 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Let me just say that your article caused much squeeing with delight over in yee olde snapecast-land.

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2006-08-26 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay! I'm glad. I'm looking forward to the next one.

Interesting article. I need to listen to Potter Cast to see how I like it.

I was wondering if that link you gave to upstart_crow is for anyone, or did you specifically do it for her? I would very much like to try this out. I need money, as well as writing experience, so this would be perfect!

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2006-08-26 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
It's for anyone. Click away! Seriously, everyone I know is writing for the site right now it seems. I've made about $500 from them so far.

[identity profile] rose-sous-globe.livejournal.com 2006-08-26 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
It was a good and useful article! Don't fall prey to the same syndrome as me and be afraid of having your writing all naked and out in public. And the fandom is composed of weird people. Don't listen to them, listen to the voice of reason, namely me. :P
