[Poll #827899]

WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT NOISE?

You should really have a voice post for a poll like that - if you can capture the sound.

It's a baby with a squeaky chew toy shaped like a duck.

Just to screw with you of course.

I once heard a sound outside my window that I thought was a baby crying.

At the time I was living in a northern Canadian town. Not only did my house border the woods, it was also -25 Celcius and about 2:00 am.

It was actually most likely cat/animal sex and/or death.

There's also some type of bird that sounds like a crying baby. How do I know this? There's one that lives near me that likes to wake me up and freak me out. The bird that sounded like wounded puppy though... that was evil... and turned out to be the cutest little barn owl you ever wanted to throw a rock at (not that I would, but I wasn't wearing shoes and I was trying to find a puppy in the mud and sharpness and... *sigh*)

Strange. We had owls, of course, but none of them ever sounded like that.

In her case it could still be a strange bird, like the urban duck or a precocious baby.

There are a lot of strange birds in this city, no one can argue with that. :)

(And I wouldn't have believed it was an owl if we hadn't tracked it down, but two of us both thought "injured puppy" and being dog people went to find it to see if we could help)

The previous occupants of our apartment had pet ducks. I was forced to do some research on why someone would want a pet duck. Apparently, they are quite loyal and make excellent guard animals. They will make a big fuss whenever someone breaks into the house. So, I voted with the duck theory.
