a New York story in the way things only seem to happen here

According to the New York Times:
"Yankees Pitcher Cory Lidle Was Killed in the Plane Crash, High-Ranking City Official Says"

He was probably flying it. It was his plane, and his passport has been found on the street.

And apparently he's the second Yankee to crash a plane in recent years. Odd

Goodness. Bloomberg just announced that there were people in the apartment where the plane hit the building and they're FINE. Sorry, I have CNN on while I'm typing. That _was_ a light aircraft.

I think it was 27 years ago when one of the Yankees catchers (Thermon Munson, I believe) was practicing taking off and landing his plane when it crashed and he was killed.

Ah. Yes it was. The news didn't give me a date until 30 seconds ago, and the way they were talking about it made it seem more recent.

What I read implied that the people in the apartment saw it coming and ran before it hit. They were workfolk looking at plans for renovating it.
