(no subject)

Because Megan is right, I am going to the Hairspray open call on Monday.
I will have to sing 16 bars of a 60s-style song I've not yet chosen,, and have sheet music with me in case they want to hear it with a piano.

The degree to which I am terrified of doing this is MASSIVE. Doing this makes too many things Real. Doing this means that one day I'm going to go into the room and think I may actually have a chance. Doing this means one day auditioning for stuff I'm emotionally involved with in some way. Doing this also means getting up way early, as I have somewhere I have to be by 11am that morning. Hrmmm... I should probably reschedule that. How early do people line up for open calls anyway?

P.S. -- I don't sing

P.S. -- on a seperate note, if you've never said my name before, just go for it, and if you're wrong, I'll correct you and be perfectly nice about it. But calling me up and going "Can I spea to Ra...ra.. Miss... Ra.. ra?" is really annoying. It makes me feel like a freak.

How hard can it be to say RM?

My charming husband to be, you don't address a lady by her initials. Not unless you want her to strip the skin from your bones. :P

Hairspray open call -- wow, good luck! I've seen the movie, but not the play, I've heard it's a fun show.

You *clears throat* do appear to sing and quite pleasingly if what was on audioblog was representative. What musical blast-o from the past-o (gotta get that period slang on) are you planning to show them? If I might offer an opinion, I would stay away from 'Who put the bop in the bop sh-bop' were I you. I'd think 'teen star/ girl group' of the period as that would go with the theme of Hairspray. Personally, I'd pay to hear you sing "It't my party and I'll cry if I want to", or better yet "You Don't Own Me" as popularised by the, um, inimiable Lesley Gore. They would show off your nice pitch and clear tone quality without making you do a lot of belting.

Good Luck

Yes!

"You Don't Own Me" might be perfect for you.

I actually like belting -- more than I should.

Right now it's looking like "I will follow him" because it's the only thing I could find that I can a) have a little fun with and b) demonstrates I can sing more than three notes.

I had to buy a whole book of 60s stuf to find the sheet music though, so this could change.
