The problem with role models is you can use them to strive, or use them to hate yourself. Which explains a great deal about a number of things in my life that should have occured to me sooner.

In other news, it wouldn't be a week if someone with my last name and family from Sicily didn't email me to see if we were related. Of course I look like your aunt, the whole bloody island is related. I'll deal with that later.

Also, for those I promised info to:

It could be far, far worse. Aside from the small spit of folks with my last name - all relatives - in California, the only concentration of people with this name that seems to remain in the world (nope, apparently we all left the homeland) are Utah Mormons. And there are a *lot* of them.

We've had missionary Mormon children ring our doorbell when we were living overseas, assuming that we *must* be Mormoms as well (our branch of the family claims Catholicism in a vague way) and can't they visit with us and discuss their mission? If it weren't for some other lovely things associated with The Name (a small castle and very interesting history) I'd probably change it just to avoid the Mormon implications.

One side of my mother's family is from the British Channel Isle of Guernsey and it was really strange to go there and see a bunch of little old ladies who looked just like my great aunt. As it's such a small island the chances are pretty good that they were distant relations.
