What I noticed was that the actual step part is narrower than most sets of stairs, which adds to them feeling steep and precarious, and your building must be old, because the center of the steps has been worn down by foot traffic, making them uneven in places, plus the lighting is strange and the shadows are thrown in odd ways. It's a terrible combination.
