1-800-bad-service

For one of my jobs I contracted with 1-800-GOT-JUNK to come clear junk out of this house. I called yesterday to confirm. All was well. Then they just called me to see if I'd mind if they did it tomorrow instead.

YES I'D MIND! Who is going go be like "yeah, okay, sure" when they've just rescheduled multiple people's days around this thing. What the hell?

They are showing up as scheduled, but WHAT THE HELL?

Got Junk

These folks tend to be independent contractors who are - in many cases - breaking local laws by offering services that are often legally and exclusively contracted out already. They get away with it because most of the companies just don't bother going after them. The bad part is the unprofessional situation you have seen. The good part is that you can bargain with them over the price. I did and got a better deal.

They've probably got some clients who don't care, because they didn't need to rearrange stuff, or whose rearrangements can be rearranged again (e.g., a retired person who had figured okay, I'll go to the library on Thursday instead of Wednesday, or someone whose main plans for the week involved last-minute Christmas baking and is going to be home anyhow).

The good news is that they asked, instead of calling you at 10 in the morning to tell you sorry, they wouldn't be there.

Eh? What? Do I need to do anything / make sure important stuff doesn't get thrown out?

No no... my personal assisting guy's house. It's all done.
