bento

[livejournal.com profile] gina_r_snape just posted about her bento box, and you know what, I really need one, but I want a more traditional, square one for bringing lunches to work.

Where do I find one online? Criteria, as above, also, not the ugly one "in primary colors as seen on Rachel Ray" that's all over the Internet. Finally, at least some inner compartments must be microwaveable.

Thnx.

Hey! :-)

Zojirushi has a few smaller round bento boxes. If you search amazon for bento, though, there are a few square ones available. Don't know if they are microwavable or not.

Good luck! :-)

btw, I was in Whole Foods two days ago and their gluten free section is back in action, though you probably already know that...

Yes! Hahah thank you on the GF.

all the sqaure ones on Amazon are for home use -- they don't snap shut for dragging to work. I should probably just go to one of the Japanese markets here, although I know the JAS Marts don't have them. Maybe m2m or Sunrise.

It's not square, and I am having the worst day of my life, so forgive me for not finding the url myself, but the Mr. Bento I bought Sola has four compartments and keeps food warm all day without additional microwaving, however, they can all be microwaved sans lid. Also, it has a carrying bag with a shoulder strap like a small purse, and a top loop for carrying that way.

Also, ebay. There are a lot of various kinds on ebay, and most of them do say whether or not they are microwavable.

Christ, ignore me.

I didn't click on her journal until just now.

Anyway: ebay.

We have email about that worst day of your life, btw. But it mainly involves descriptions of what should be done to disorginzed people with knives.

Hmmm, I bet the JAS Mart above Around the Clock Cafe could tell you where to get one if they don't actually have one. What about Pearl River Mart in SoHo?

I've had my "Mr. Bento" for well over a year and I *L*O*V*E* LOVE it! It's made all the difference in my bringing my lunch with me. Leftovers from dinner can go straight into the individual containers. Also, so long as I remove the lids, I've never had a problem microwaving the containers. 2 of the containers snap shut, one had an odd quater twist lock, the other is fully threaded for soup/liquids.

Ha ha ha. I love it!

Here's some. (http://www.jbox.com/SEARCH/bento) Although, it looks like most of them have Hello Kitty or some other little characters on it. And they look smallish.

Ebay is a good place. Also, don't be worried about the size--they may seem smallish, but I've found I can still pack in enough food to feed D, who runs a ton and so burns lots of calories.

p.s You might like a lot of the ones at Japan Souvenir on eBay.

I don't know offhand of any square snap-closed microwaveable ones (that don't just look like a piece of tupperware with compartments), just round: the Zojirushi ones are poplar. I will look around Japantown and see if I find anything for you, though.
