You know, despite all things seemingly to the contrary, there are things I vote for about the modern world. You know, penicillin, not dying in childbirth, New York smelling only as bad as it does and not worse, the Internet at least on alternate Tuesdays.

One of the things I'm a really big fan of is _hot_ running water when every muscle in my body aches and I know that's only going to be more the case tomorrow. Which is why it's so damnably irritating when the running water is not in fact hot, but about luke warm for 30 seconds before becoming ICE FUCKING COLD.

If I must live in a world with American Idol and Paris Hilton, I at least deserve reliable hot water, but oh no... I live in NYC.

A few times a week when I go to take a shower, the pipes (which I think are original 1922 models) make this horrific screeching noise that makes it sound like someone is either being murdered or violated with a doorknob. More often than not, with this screaming comes a drop in water pressure unless I have it cranked over to cold.

Damn this persistent need for hygiene.
