rmAnyone who has visited me recently is probably aware of the homeless encampment that has started to spring up around the corner from my house. I've been bothered/annoyed about it for a bit, because ths situation is unsanitary, and I have to walk under that construction scaffolding thing every day when I come home. I didn't feel threatened by it per se, but crowded and frustrated with it.
Today though, I received drama when I muttered sorry as I was asked for change, and for the third or fourth time this week I debated the moral quandry of calling the cops about the whole thing. The way this city treats the homeless is appalling, and bot the cops and I have better things to do than deal with each other. But I was definitely thinking it, and planning to discuss it with the roommate sometime soon.
On my way in earlier, I noticed a cop about halfway up the block, ringing an apartment door, and I thought about mentioning it to him, but let it go. When I got to that part of the street though, cops were there. The homeless men were gone, and they were throwing the various detritus of the area into the gutter. I've not idea what happened, and I'm glad someone finally dealt with it, but I can't help but think this is probably a most temporary solution.
