I was trying, rather haphazardly as I'm not good at it, to lead her (who had never done this before) through that basic turning Regency waltz. When it became apparent that I was not up to the task, especially on a loud dance floor vibrating with modern pop music and full of blinky lights, I said "fuck it" and got us into said vague promenade position.

That said, it was still a necessary endeavor, as they were doing the thing with the corridor in the middle of the dance floor and encouraging people to show off in that way that leads most people to being their most trashy.

I'm certianly very pleased with how the photo came out.

I find it difficult to lead somebody unfamiliar with it through Regency waltz at the best of times. I can't imagine how difficult it would be in the situation you describe (and on carpet, no less).

I think I've somehow managed to miss being in any dance situations with the corridor thing. I'm not actually sure what you're referring to (I can see a corridor formed in that dance hall, but I don't know how the corridor space gets used in dances like that, as I tend to avoid attending them).
